Hotel Villa Nečas is an extraordinary place near the centre of Žilina town. Historical building after complete reconstruction between years 2006-2007 got the character of stylish hotel with restaurant, wine-cellar, saloons and accommodation in conditioned green park.
The uniqueness of Hotel Villa Nečas is based on the fact, that it has in its own area a chapel, in which the worship and weddings regularly take place. In Villa Nečas restaurant we can organise your wedding or baptism including the church ceremony at the same place.
On the edge of Vah´s terrace, by the then port of flatboats on river Váh and by one of the main vintage roads in Hungarian Empire – “Via Magna”, which headed from Bratislava via Žilina towards Turiec, there was built King’s salt stock. At the beginning of the 18-th century, when the business started to expand, also the network of salt stocks started to increase their number round Hungarian Empire.
The choice was appointed to the nearest place near Žilina town, on uphill promontory, which was not flooded by river Váh. Each spring river Váh drained out the river-basin, but it did not cause a lot of damage. In the save port by the town the raft men stopped with their goods. After they had managed to go down the river via Trenčín narrow with its most demanding and dangerous part with its legendary rocks called “Margita” and “Besná”. In the stream of the river flow upstanding brave rocks were partly destroyed in the last century, and so only the legends and of raft men and people connected with the river and the country remain.
In 1722 was occupied the town’s pasture for the construction of the salt stock. In 1747 it is named on bounds map as “Locus antiqui Depositum salis“ /old place of salt stock/. The whole areal consisted of the stock, administrative building – “mansion”, outbuildings and a chapel. Till the present day only two objects were preserved: the chapel and the mansion.
We assume that the King’s custom-house was settled in these premises in around 1763. The office had functioned till the year 1785, when it was moved to Čadca. On the face building is placed Ugrian King’s escutcheon with chronology 1763. It is probably from the period, when the King’s custom-house was placed here. The during the whole 19-th century King’s Salt Office was based here again. Salt was stored in salt stock until First Czechoslovak Republic. It was imported from Wielicz mines in Poland.
In 1905 Žilina´s pulp-mill was started. One of the founders was Engineer Tomáš Nečas /Jamolice in Czech Republic 1868 – Vienna 1935/. The estate for the company was not chosen randomly. It continued onto big flatboats port and wood deliveries for the mill needs. Also the area of Kingś salt stock was included into newly constructed mill, where from the administrative building the new representative flat for director Engineer T. Nečas was built, who from the year 1907 became the CEO of the mill. By the mansion Tomáš Nečas established conditioned green park. During the consequent expansion of the mill the park size was reduced. It was the most significant period of the “mansion”, where his director organised splendid receptions and parties. Here we can find the legacy of well-known cuisine. Here the specialities with top quality wines were served here.
The gloomy years of war and consequent age conveyed slow fall of former noblesse. Because of the lack of the flats, the flats for the management of the mill were established there. Later they were changed for the flats for blue-collar workers and finely the mill’s nursery school and kindergarten were based there.
At early 1980s the building was reconstructed again and served as cultural-social company centre. Later it was used as a training centre. In 2000 a flat for the director was based there again. In 1989 the authorities ordered demolition of the salt stock. This was an unfortunate step for the history of the town.
The company was built in Horevažie part Hôrky over the stock, in present day street called “Pri Celulózke”. It is situated at the end of the industrial zone in part called “Celulózka”, by the housing estate Celulózka, nearby the sally road towards Košice. Váh used to run along the area, but it was moved later when the Žilina Water Dam was built.
In years 2006 - 2007 there was the reconstruction which changed function of mansion into restaurant and the pension. The project is from architects Ivan Jarina and Martin Kubovský, from the studio Van Jarina. “Our main focus was dedicated to space concept, sophisticated design of apertures and space bonding and arrangement of the furniture“ says I. Jarina. We did not interfere into façade just to keep original character of the object. They focused on inside interiors, which they composed as and theatre scene for the client. They harmonically merged the present design with the history of the building. The entrance into the area is through a huge parking place, where St. Jána Nepomuckého Baroques chapel is dominating object and it has been known since 1991 as The Virgin Mary chapel. Then we pass the garden towards the property.
Today there is again connection to the rich history. The restaurant joined the preserved spaces with modern interior and made it possible to enjoy the specialities and good wine in pleasant environment.
